Who can apply?

Students in JSS1 to JSS3 across Nigeria are eligible to participate.

What is the essay topic?

The 2026 essay topic is: “The Power of Insurance in Creating Safer and More Secure Societies.”

What are the prizes to be won?

Participants stand a chance to win from the ₦11.5 million prize pool.

  • Winner: ₦5 million scholarship
  • 1st Runner-up: ₦2 million scholarship
  • 2nd Runner-up: ₦1 million scholarship
  • Winner’s School: ₦1 million grant

The top three finalists will also enjoy an all-expenses-paid trip to Lagos for the championship finale.

How can I apply?

Visit www.heirsinsurancegroup.com/essay, complete the application form and upload your essay document.

What are the participation guidelines?
  • Word count: not more than 500 words
  • Essays must be typed and not handwritten
  • Students must include their name, school and class on the essay document
  • Document format: Microsoft Word document only
  • Students must save their essay document using their full name

Note: Participants must upload a passport photograph and a valid means of identification when completing their application.

What is the submission timeline?

The submission portal opened on May 27, 2026, and will close on July 8, 2026. All entries must be submitted before the deadline.

Can my child or student submit more than one entry?

No. Only one entry per student is permitted. Multiple submissions from the same student will be disqualified.

Can I assist my child or student with the essay?

Parents and teachers may assist students with registration and submission. However, they should not assist with writing the essay, as all entries must reflect the student’s original work.

How will I know if my submission was successful?

Once your essay has been successfully submitted, you will receive a confirmation message.

How will the winners be selected?

Essays will be evaluated by an independent panel of judges based on:

  • Creativity
  • Originality
  • Clarity
  • Relevance to the topic
  • Quality of expression

What is the Teachers’ Insurance Awareness Prize?

The Teachers’ Insurance Awareness Prize is an initiative under the Heirs Insurance Essay Championship that recognises and rewards teachers who actively promote insurance education and awareness in their schools and communities.

Who can participate?

The prize is open to teachers in primary and secondary schools across Nigeria who are actively promoting insurance awareness through classroom activities, community engagement, publications, training sessions or other educational initiatives.

How can I participate?

Teachers are required to submit an entry demonstrating how they have promoted insurance education or awareness. The submission should include:

  • A description of the initiative undertaken
  • Evidence of impact, such as photos, videos, testimonials or media mentions
  • Any teaching or awareness materials used
  • Any additional supporting documents relevant to the initiative

Entries can be submitted through the official portal.

What are the rewards?
  • Winner: ₦1 million cash prize
  • Winner’s School: ₦500,000 grant
What are the eligibility criteria?
  • Teacher must be employed by a primary or secondary school in Nigeria
  • Teacher must have actively promoted insurance awareness in their school or community
  • Teacher must submit a valid entry with supporting evidence of their initiative
